Happy New Year From Tirnua

December 31st, 2009 by Tirnua Greg Leave a comment Share on Facebook

Electric Starter Kit

This week we have provided an easy way to get introduced into the energy game. It is not the most efficient by any means - your persona’s arm is gonna get tired - it will show the basics. The AA battery, AA battery harness and the hand crank comprise what could be loosely called the electric start kit (shown in the image).

Two person actions and chat have changed slightly. For two person actions, the initiator will route to the person they want to do the action with and the other person will be presented with the accept/cancel over the head of the initiator while they are standing near each other. (Enabling accept or cancel always works as before). Chat now displays overhead while you typing; it will not show to the other people until you hit return.

If you are unfortunate enough to have an item repossessed, you can now recover that item via My Stuff Panel and the Renewal sub-panel. If you have anything repo’d it will be listed on the renewal panel.

We hope your Holiday’s have been wonderful. We here at Tirnua, Wish You and Yours A Happy New Year!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

December 24th, 2009 by TirNua Audrey Leave a comment Share on Facebook

All of us at Tirnua would like to wish our players a Wonderful Christmas and a Happy 2010!

Due to the holiday, we will not be doing an official update to the site this week. You may have noticed that we went ahead and fixed some issues behind the scenes which did not require server restarts. We also spent time working on the new user experience as mentioned in the previous blog.

You can bet there are great things in store for TirNua in 2010. We look forward to sharing this new year with all of you. We also appreciate all of the support our players have given us up to this point; we couldn’t do it without you. Thank you for playing TirNua!

Wishes to all for a peaceful and safe holiday,
Audrey and The TirNua Team

Making Tirnua more accessible

December 21st, 2009 by Tirnua Luc Leave a comment Share on Facebook

As you have probably noticed this week, we have decided to put more efforts into making Tirnua easier for new players.

I would like to ask you for your help again:

  • What do you think we need to do to make it easier for new users to play and understand the game in the first few minutes?
  • Most users from facebook will only give us a few minutes. What do we need to do to get the attention of the new users?

We have focused lately on the new user quests, they involve basic UI training. It is ok for you to create a new account to check the current new user experience.

Thank you in advance,

Luc

Print Custom Content Floor Tiles with a Kiln

December 19th, 2009 by TirNua Audrey Leave a comment Share on Facebook

You can now create your very own Custom Floor Tiles by Firing them in a Kiln!

Here’s how to use it:

  1. The first step is to create some Custom Floor Tiles using the Custom Content panel under the Shopping & Gifts Panel. You will need to purchase at least one stack of tiles.
  2. You will then need to create a DVD that contains the patterns for that tile. To do that drag your stack of tiles into the center of a 3D Scanner and scan them - note that in order to drag the stack you need to hold down the CTRL and ALT key while you drag the stack from your inventory. Don’t forget that the 3D Scanner will destroy the item it is scanning so best to use a stack with only 1 tile left in it so you don’t waste any. Also note that you can only scan Custom Floor Tiles which you are the author of.
  3. Once you have the DVD you can then load it into a DVD Player hooked up to the Kiln as in the following example.
  4. Floor tiles require a mix of glass, plastic, and soil in order to be created. Select “Load Materials” from the Kiln’s Action Menu and load the required materials. Note that the appropriate recycle bins need to be present on the lot.
  5. Once your DVD player is connected with a DVD loaded, and your battery harness is connected with a charged battery loaded, and your materials are loaded, you can then “Start Firing” your Custom Floor Tiles. When the firing is complete it will put the newly created stack of Custom Floor Tiles into your inventory. With one DVD you will be able to create 10 stacks of Custom Floor Tiles.

More UI Tab Consolidation - New Tab called ‘My Stuff’. This tab contains information all about you. In this panel you can view your Friend’s Feeds, Friend Requests, Messages, Quest tips, High Score Rankings, and Private Info such as your bank account data. This tab will blink If you get a new Message in game, or if you receive a new Quest.

Unisex Santa Hat Added to the Holiday Clothing Collection - now your Santa outfit is complete! Find it in the Holiday Collection on the Shopping & Gift Store Panel.

Introducing Beta Version of the Recycling Station

Convert your trash into other commodities except for food. A little bit of trash will be converted every 30 seconds, however, it can often just go back to trash. Your Mental value (Mv) will go down and your Mental capacity (Mc) will go up while doing this work. Occasionally, you might get lucky and find TAU while recycling the trash. Your chances of getting lucky improve as your Mc increases.

This is an early release of this feature. In debugging, we noticed that when two players are selecting different interactions, you might find yourself in a strange state. Try disconnecting and reconnecting the battery and clear out the action queue. Use at your own risk in other words!

Here’s how to use it:

  1. Connect a battery source. The recycle station requires a little bit of electricity per cycle.
  2. Place trash recycling bin in front of the conveyor belt
  3. Select the ‘Retrieve Trash’ interaction on the Recycle Station. Do this quite a few times, it can hold up to 20 trash bags
  4. Select ‘Sort Trash’ to start the process of separating the trash. This takes awhile. Mousing over the Recycle Station will show you the status of the components being produced
  5. Once you have whole units of components produced, select ‘Extract Components’ to extract the units of components (wood, soil, etc.). You will see these put into your bins on your lot if you have them or put into your inventory. Partial units will stay in the Recycle Station until you recycle enough to make 1 full unit.
  6. Selet Stop at any time to stop the sorting

Decorate for the Holidays

Custom Floor Tiles - you can now create your very own Custom Floor Tiles!
In the shopping panel you will find a new tab labeled ‘Custom Content’.

Larry experimenting with the new Custom Floor Tiles

To create custom floor tiles simply load your own texture files by clicking the ‘Load File’ button, give it a unique name, and click the ‘Upload’ button. In the Purchase Dialog you can choose how many stacks of floor tiles (30 tiles to a stack) you would like to order. You can order more at any time from the ‘My Creations’ section. In a upcoming future release, you will be have the ability to use your recycling materials to create your floor tiles from much like you can now with custom clothing.

Unlike regular floor tiles, Custom Floor Tiles give you the ability to place them in different rotations. When first dragging the floor tiles stack on to the lot to select those tiles as the current tiles, hit the space bar to choose the rotation you want them to be placed in. All tiles placed after that will placed with that rotation. To change rotation re-drag the stack onto the lot and change the rotation with the space bar.

If you would like to sell your cool Custom Floor Tiles you can drag them onto your lot as an object by holding the CTRL and ALT keys down while you drag it on. You will then be able to set them for sale when in manage mode.

Decorate your Home for the Holidays with these Holiday Items

You will find all of these items along with Santa outfits for both guys and gals in the Holiday Store. And, we have added a Lucia wreath to go with the Lucia outfit introduced last week. The wreath is unisex!  Many of these items are available in the Gift Store as well.  Get into the Holiday Spirit and send your Tirnuan friends some gifts this season!

We have started a Holiday Collection where we will put seasonal items up for sale during various holidays and seasons. Going forward objects that are not in season will not be available from Tirnua all year long. However, you will still most likely be able to find the items for sale from the Player Stores.

RARE DVD Sewing Machine to use with Scanner - manufacture this rare Sewing Machine Pro by printing (printer and scanner require a VIP Badge) the normal sewing machine and selecting ‘Rare’.

This new DVD Sewing Machine will allow you to manufacture multiple custom clothing items in a row! With the custom clothing patterns on DVDs you will now be able to trade and gift the DVDs, giving you the ability to sew other peoples’ custom clothing patterns. You can also allow others to use your sewing machine with their own DVDs and you can charge a fee if you like. To charge a fee select “Set Fee” from the sewing machines ‘Action’ Menu.

Once you have your new Sewing Machine Pro, here’s how to use it:

  1. Hook the sewing machine up to a DVD Player and to a battery (note: battery hooks up on the left and the DVD player on the right)
  2. Create some custom clothing in the Dress Me ‘Create’ panel and purchase at least one copy (you can use custom content already purchased too)
  3. Drag that copy of custom clothing into a scanner, scan the item and create a DVD
  4. Load that DVD into the DVD player connected to the Sewing Machine Pro
  5. Sew to your heart’s content.

Improved Editing UI in the Home Viewer - we are working on making editing easier in order to help out our newbies in the game.

  1. New play, edit and manage radio buttons - should be easy to readily see what mode you are in and toggle between them
  2. Faster Editing - you can now edit the lot you own without going into edit mode. When you drag an object, it will start to move after a second. The game will go back into play mode automatically.
  3. New 4-way arrow drag-pan replaces the pan icons at the top - while in the Home Viewer the mouse drag will now pan just like in the Map View.
  4. Feedback added to tell the user whether he is clicking on a busy tile.

Improved female - we believe we have corrected the issues introduced with our new female model last week. Your custom content clothing should look fabulous on you now! Thank you for all the feedback and please feel free to point out any more anomalies that you notice.

Other Stuff

  1. The Shopping and Gifts tabs have been consolidated under one tab - the Shopping tab. It is our goal to simplify the UI and this is another step toward that goal.
  2. Display “Online Now” in the Shopping Panel’s Select Gift Recipient dialog
  3. Locks now reward Levels in Green Thumbs and in Energy Moguls
  4. There is a new small battery and battery harness. Note: the battery is given to new players and the new battery harness only loads the new AA battery.

Life and Death

December 7th, 2009 by Tirnua Luc Leave a comment Share on Facebook

Things that never die are not really alive. We want all our plants in TirNua to have a lifecycle, and that means they will all have to die sooner or later. This is important to be able to calculate the carbon footprint of life in TirNua.

Jumping from plants to objects, we know that the game will crumble under the weight of an abundance of objects (and trash) unless we add wear & tear, and retire or break the objects after some amount of time.

The game veterans are familiar with those two concepts and while we did not have time to include them within the very first releases of the game, we need to start working on them soon. Spring cleaning will come early this year!

I am asking for your advice about the following issues:

- What would be the proper life expectancy of trees, ( orange, banana, apple), flowers, christmas trees, fruits, food etc..? Should we do something different with rares? Could plants become sick? Please provide some explaination of why the timings you suggest would be justifiable.

- How do we reward the existing users who have already been growing trees? Do we set the trees’ birthdays to today? Do we give them longer to live? Maybe we give special benefits to all plants grown before some future date (January 1st)?

- What would be a reasonable life expectancy for objects? a chair? a video poker machine? etc…

Those are difficult issues, but they are fundamental issues. The solutions we find will enable us to make TirNua a great simulation game.

Sincerely,

Luc

New Biofuel Energy Source in Tirnua plus Capacity Locks

December 5th, 2009 by TirNua Audrey Leave a comment Share on Facebook

Another source of energy - Use Biofuel to fuel the boiler instead of wood. Biofuel is created by using the Biofuel Plant which is powered by electric. Food, Fiber and Organic components will convert to Biofuel.

Capacity Locks - use these locks to assign to your MEP energy capacities to prevent them from decaying below the locked level. For example, you would need 10 locks to prevent your M capacity from going below 10.

Residents of Tirnua earn locks based on the number of days they have been a resident. Everyone starts with 15 locks, including non-residents. Active residents are given an additional 5 locks now and will receive one additional lock every 30 days.

To manage your locks, click on your avatar, select ‘Manage’ and then select ‘Locks’. Use the controls to set the number of locks between Mental, Emotional and Physical.

Earn Locks in-game- Green thumb scores earn you more locks as shown in the chart below. For instance, a green thumb score of 14 will reap you 5 locks.

Overtime, we will have other ways for residents to earn these locks in game. The design is still under way for this but look forward to more coming over the next few weeks.

Roommate Section added to the Manage Keys button on the Lot Properties Information dialog box.

      • You can send the selected Roommate an in-game message.

      • Lot owner can reclaim the Key to their Lot from any Roommate

Our lady character is a little more womanly now. She now has hips!
Along with this, we have added the long skirt and long sleeved shirt clothing items to the female wardrobe. These items are also available as custom content items - we are looking forward to seeing your creativity in creating evening gowns for the holiday season.

Just in time for the Swedish tradtional celebration of Lucia on Dec 13th, we bring you a Santa Lucia outfit. We think it kind of doubles as a karate outfit :-)

New map icon pins on the World Map show where the action is taking place. When someone somewhere in the Tirnua world does an activity, one of these map icons will appear on the World Map.

More cool stuff coming next week!

Shopping for Xmas Trees?

December 2nd, 2009 by TirNua Sarah Leave a comment Share on Facebook

Grow your own in TirNua!

Here are some that your fellow TirNuan Residents have already created.

Oops, don’t forget the resident deadline is today

December 1st, 2009 by Tirnua Luc Leave a comment Share on Facebook

Today is the last day for renewing your resident badge if you have not done so already. The “Repo man” will come and take those back sometime between today and tomorrow.

I know that most of you have already renewed, but if you have several accounts you care about, don’t forget to renew on those accounts too.

One question for you: Should we add capacity locks to the game? Those would be locks you could assign to your M,E,P capacities to prevent them from decaying below the locked level (You would need 10 locks to prevent your M capacity to go below 10 for example ).

Maybe those locks could be earned in the game overtime? and maybe some locks could be earned as users level up?

What do you think? The dev team is brainstorming about these, and your input is welcomed,

Sincerely,

Luc
