Earth Day Success in TirNua

April 28th, 2010 by TirNua Audrey Leave a comment Share on Facebook

How TirNuans took action for Earth Day this year in TirNua

Recycling clean up - we were happy to see many folk took the opportunity to clean house and recycled items for TAU.
Here is some interesting data:

  1. Approximately 10,000 items were recycled
  2. Total pay-out for all recycling: 43766 TAU
  3. Most items that were recycled by one persona: 223
  4. Most money earned by one persona from recycling: 2619 TAU

Growing a new Maple Tree: - everyone who logged on over the time period received a maple tree seedling along with a plot of ground to grow it on. Over 350 trees were successfully planted. If you have one of these in your inventory, you can still can plant it and rapidly grow it to maturity. These maple trees will be made available for sale in an upcoming publication; their growing cycle a much longer one.

Earned Earth Day Badge: - the special Earth Day Badge was awarded to those personas who grew the maple tree to maturity AND recycled at least one item.

Around 700 of these badges have either been awarded or are in progress meaning at least one activity was successfully completed.

If you have one in progress, you still have time to complete the other activity and earn your badge. But, don’t wait - this will be turned off with our next publication.

Using Green Technology - most of all folks took advantage of the increased payouts for using the Treadmills and Biofuel Machines as well as getting rid of their unwanted trash at the recycling stations and earning a bit of a profit.

A big thank you goes out to all you fellow TirNuans who helped make our first ‘official’ Earth Day in TirNua a success.

Earth Day in TirNua

April 23rd, 2010 by TirNua Audrey Leave a comment Share on Facebook

Earth Day provides an opportunity to advocate climate policy, energy efficiency, renewable energy and green jobs, and a chance to make personal commitments to sustainability. We here at TirNua are on a mission to create a green economy. To help move us toward this goal we are pleased to provide you with the following clean environmental activities that come with special benefits this Earth Day.

  • Grow a Maple Tree - everyone who logs into TirNua over the next few days will receive a Free Maple Tree. You will receive one for each persona you have but you will need to switch personas and re-login to receive the items. A seed bag with one seed inside and a plot of ground to grow it on will be placed in your inventory. Because this is a special event, if the tree is planted by this Sunday, it will grow super fast in under 10 hours!

These same Maple Trees will be in stores soon, but will take much longer than one day to grow. A very cool thing about the new maple tree is that even though you need a large area to grow the tree in, you will be able to place objects like the waterwell or a bench under the tree. This is awesome! Please note: you need a garden plot to grow the maple tree on and when you move it to your lot from your inventory, you will need to place it on a garden plot too.

  • Recycling - have you been wanting to cleanup your lot or your inventory? Well now is the perfect time to do so. For the next few days only, when you recycle any item you might receive a percentage of the purchase price in TAU. Or, when you take your trash to a recycling machine, the payouts will be better than ever!
  • A New Badge - earn a special Earth Day badge when you fully grow the special maple tree and recycle at least one item. This badge is a Mini-Globe! This year is the 40th Anniversary of Earth Day, and since the traditional 40th anniversary gift is a ruby, it has a dazzling floating ruby on top. You must do both activities to receive this special badge
  • Treadmills & Biofuel - our green technologies, the treadmills and biofuel generators will have much higher energy payouts during this exclusive event.
  • Don’t forget, these are exclusive specials available for only a couple of days. Don’t wait, log in and take action now!

What is my Carbon Footprint? From your feedback we have started iterating the Carbon Footprint Game. This week we have not actually changed the carbon footprint calculation rather we are showing some new data that will be used in the future.

Every object and every persona in TirNUa will have a carbon footprint. All objects start out with a ‘base’ carbon footprint and then overtime ‘accumulate’ more carbon. With this release when in recycle mode, you will see two measurements in the tooltip when mousing over an object. Your accumulated carbon footprint measurement will move towards the ‘good side’ for doing activities like planting trees while it will move towards the ‘bad side’ when doing things such as running the boiler.

Over the next few weeks we will releasing more features and information on just how this is going to work.

More Map changes - another pass on the new World Map is in. The most interesting aspect of this rendition is that a new layer has been added to show where people have their lots and where the recently opened lots are. Hex based map cells have been added too and the zones follow these hex cells. Details about each cell are available as well.

    Other Stuff & Fixes

  • The Black Refrigerator - you may have wondered what happened to a black refrigerator on your lot recently. Well, it was inadvertently replaced with a gold one in our last publication. The black refrigerator is back now and since some of you liked the gold version we have added it as a new object along with a copper colored one. These are available in the appliance store.
  • Non roommates can now groom any other player’s trees.
  • Fiber is working in the Biofuel Plant G2.
  • Batteries can be drag-n-dropped into the harness.
  • Help dialogs are fixed and showing up for feedback to player when doing activities
  • As always, don’t forget to check the VIP Store for the4 deals of the week!

Let’s take action this Earth Day!

Help us Welcome New Team Member Parizad

April 15th, 2010 by TirNua Audrey Leave a comment Share on Facebook

First of all, we will not be doing a publish this week. We had a few dogs running around in the office and they chewed through some cables and we got hosed for this week’s update.

We would like you to please help us welcome a new member who joined our team this week. She is also somewhat responsible by wreaking major havok around the office in her first few days on the job! But, no she wasn’t the one chewing on the cables. If you know Parizad you know what we are talking about. Some of you may have already seen Tirnua Parizad roaming around the game lately.

She’s going to be helping us out with a little bit of everything except for writing code or creating art for the game. Let’s face it, we all like having a playable game, and who wants to have a crude stick figure drawing for a persona. When asked about how it felt to be with the team, she quickly replied, “I can’t believe I conned Luc & Greg into hiring me again. Suckerssss!” When you see her, be sure to say “Hi.” You might find her here but if not leave her a message.

    Fruit Storage

April 9th, 2010 by TirNua Audrey Leave a comment Share on Facebook

You can now process your Fruit at the Food Processing Stations and then store it in Refrigerators.

Food Proceesors will now display a dialog allowing you to select any available fruit from depots on your lot. The Refrigerators will display a dialog allowing you to select any processed fruit from any Food Processors on your lot. Food Processors can store 5 items, Refrigerators can store 20 items. For this week only you will not need to power your Refrigerators but starting next week you will need to or your fruit will spoil. In the coming weeks you can look forward to actually being able to do something with your Processed Fruit.

    U-Charge-M Home Battery Depot Kit

Buy and Sell electricity with a “U-Charge-M Home Battery Depot Kit” (2 of them shown above).

There are two electric connections on the depot: One for someone to “Sell” you electricity and another to “Buy” electricity from you.

As the owner you will be able to set the ask (buy for other’s) price and bid (sell for other’s) price. Note: the prices are for 100 units. You can add, remove and check funds.

Finally, you will notice the Depot has a Capacity. The capacity will deteriorate over time. To replace or even to build a depot with more capacity you can recycle and integrate used batteries into the depot. You must have Mental Capacity above 35 and Mental Value must be above 15. It is recommended that you use batteries which have lost capacity and are near the end of their life. When you recycle batteries this way, however, you will not get all the normal recycle materials. Rather you will get only 2 of them - whatever is left over from the integration into the depot.  Note: do not separately recycle the battery, select the “Recycle and Integrate Battery” action.

    New Kitchen Units

As usual we’ve also fixed multiple bugs and behind the scenes issues.

    Have fun!

Just in time: be a Bunny for Easter

April 2nd, 2010 by TirNua Audrey Leave a comment Share on Facebook

Change your Bear into a Bunny Rabbit

All you need do is go to the ‘Shop’ tab on the ‘Dress Me’ tab and purchase bunny skins and a bunny head! Drag and drop the new items on to your bear in the dress me window. As a resident, you can create your own custom outfits for the rabbit just like you can for the bear.

Learn more about creating custom content or visit our Wiki to find information on how to create custom content masks and templates with texture samples.

Lots of New Eggs for the Easter Holiday
Look for them in the Holiday Collection Store on the Shopping Tab. A few can only be purchased in the VIP store!

Corn can now be added to the Biofuel Generation Plant (G1) to produce biofuel. Biofuel is an energy source in TirNua.

A new Biofuel Generation Plant (G2) has been created. This Biofuel Plant can only be manufactured with the scanner and printer. It is the only rare in this category. To learn how to manufacture objects see the in-game help.

This new Biofuel machine only accepts corn and fiber. It has a better output from corn and fiber than G1; it processes corn 20% better and fiber 5% better then the G1.

    Updated World Map

We have refactored our map so it will be more manageable and so we can add more interesting features in the future. We were using Google Maps but this put limitations on us as to what we could add to it. We would like to thank Google for helping us for the last 18 months. Let us know what you think about the new map.

    Photo Stencils

You can now upload your own custom images and display them on your lot as signs. To upload custom images go to the ‘Custom Content’ sub-tab under the ‘Store’ tab. Select ‘Load File’ and choose an image to load, enter an name and hit the ‘Upload’ button. You will be charged an upload fee for each image uploaded. Images should be square and the best resolution is 128×128 pixels.

Once you have uploaded an image it will become available in the drop down under ‘My Creations’. Choose your image then choose the type of Custom Content you would like to purchase, Floor Tiles or Photo Stencil. The signs are called Photo Stencils because they will soon be used as stencils for creating other custom content.

Battery Connections use interactive menus and list the name of the object to connect to. If the object you want to connect it to is not in the correct position, the action will be disabled.

The battery harness and treadmill now provide the choice for permission settings: owner, roommates, friends, or public.

As usual don’t forget to check out the VIP Store for the hot deals of the week.

    Happy Easter!
