Oil Phase 2: Drilling and Extracting Oil

  1. Find Oil: Use the Oil Detection Station and Oil Detection Mobile to locate the oil deposits.

  2. Drill for oil: Once you have located a deposit. You will need to drill down to the deposit using an Oil Derrick (the large wooden structure shown).

    What you Need to Know:

    1. You must have an oil permit to use the derrick and the engineer must be a resident.
    2. Position the derrick over the oil find. Make sure the pipe cap is over the top of the cell above the oil deposit.

    3. The oil derrick requires rotational energy. A Mobile Boiler needs to be connected and ignited to provide the energy. The energy will be stored in the fly wheel on the derrick. It is a good idea to build up a bit before starting to drill. (Note: there is a problem with the original steam engine coupling - until it is corrected it will not be able to be used with the derrick).
    4. You will need two personas to drill: an Engineer and a Roughneck. The Engineer must have a Mental Capacity of at least 30 and Mental Value above at least 10; the Roughneck needs a Physical Capacity of at least 30 and Physical value of least 10.
    5. Stock the derrick with pipe using the “Retrieve Pipe” action on the derrick. You must qualify as a Roughneck to stock the pipe.
    6. Once there is a reserve of pipe and rotational energy in the derrick, you are ready to drill.
    7. The Roughneck needs to run the “Position Pipe” action.
    8. When the Roughneck is in place, the Engineer can “Start Drilling”.
    9. Each pipe length will take some time to drill, the deeper the pipe needs to go the more time and rotational energy required.
    10. The clutch will automatically disengage when the pipe section is done, except when there is a Oil Strike. When the strike happens you will need to shut off the derrick manually.
  3. Extracting the oil:
    1. Once there is an oil strike, Oil Donkey (with battery for power) will be required to extract the oil. Remove the oil derrick and insert the oil donkey.
    2. You must be a lot owner or roommate to use the donkey.
    3. You must have an oil permit to use the derrick.
    4. Position the Donkey so the end of the donkey with electrical connection is directly over the Oil Strike.

    5. Connect a battery harness and battery.
    6. Start the Oil Donkey.
    7. When the Oil Donkey is started, run your cursor over the Donkey for the tooltip. The data will show you the depth, current amount, and original amount of the well.
    8. The Oil Donkey’s tanks can hold about 200 units of oil. When you want to use the oil for other things, use the ‘Extract Oil’ action. If there are empty barrels on the lot, they will be filled; otherwise, an oil barrel will show up in the persona’s inventory.

In the Gardening Arena this Week:

  1. Corn Fields in TirNua - just like growing coffee and strawberries, you can grow your own corn too. Big difference is that you will get only one picking per plant; each picking reaps two bushels of corn. After the picking, the corn plant will die and be ready for recycling. As with the coffee and strawberries, the corn does not reproduce with hybrids. The benefit to reproducing is that you can get a fresh new young plant to replace your old close to death or dead one.
  2. Going forward when picking crops (coffee, corn, strawberries) in a Farm zone you have a 50% chance of doubling the harvest.
  3. Change plants to increase GreenThumb when you full grow them, not harvest (except when you get a tree)
  4. Roasted coffee goes to the person doing the roasting.

DVDs have their content displayed as an image in game

Achievement Badge Updates

  1. Added 2 new energy Badges
  2. Added Badges for top scores Green Thumbs and Energy. Top 100, 50,25,10,5,1
  3. Earned badges can be placed in lots
  4. Tooltips added to Badges on lots

Bug Fixes

  • Fix incorrect display of required materials when loading materials into objects like the Kiln
  • Fix Sewing Machine to end properly when finished
  • Fix for crash when reproducing plants after having disabled reproduction dialog
  • Fix for crashes when leaving lot while flowers are still loading
  • Display percent grown on flowers tool tips
  • Display seed count on tool tips on seed bags
  • Display feed count on tool tips on feed bags
  • Display correct flower type and seed count on generic seed bags
  • No longer display expiry date for seeds and feed bags
  • Fixed sofa so you can actually sit on it now!
  • As usual don’t forget to check out the VIP Store for the hot deals of the week.

    Enjoy!

Looks like you all have been busy busy busy. Lots of new things to try out in all categories. Great Job!

    2. Atlas Says:

Yeah, this is one of the best updates yet! Great job, guys! Seems to be a little of everything in this week’s push for EVERYONE! (:

    3. Raisin Says:

      Damn you Dominic!
      lol ;)

I said Dominic straight away, then you said no, then I started on all the other people :D

Can we please get a “spank the devs with a rancid fish” option next update.

    4. Qute Pi Says:

I love the disc labels :D Thank you!!!

    5. FUGLY BEAR Says:

HA HA SPANK THE DEVS WITH A RANCID FISH, ACTUALLY THAT WILL MAKE DOMINIC SMELL BETTER SINCE HE HASNT CHANGED CLOTHES SINCE CHRISTMAS. ANYWAY JUST WANT TO LET EVERYONE KNOW THE HEAD ON THE BEARS CUSTOM CONTENT ISNT WORKING YET. IT MAKES YOUR BEARS HEAD GREY INSTEAD OF YOUR CONTENT.

    6. Joweii Says:

Awesome update this week :) I cant wait to get done moving and get back from vacation so I can check everything out …. I like that we have another option for the bear clothes too….. Will there be more clothes for the bear other than custom content of clothes? Either way … I guess the TirNuan Community has time to get some bear clothes together by the time Im done w/ real life …. lol that should be in about a month …. So get cracking on it those who sew and do the clothes :P Corn!!! and the Oil equipment… Thus I am happy that my wait is finally over for that…. LOL Now Ive got to wait a little while longer to check it all out :)

Ohhh and the wonderful Badges … they are so awesome too … I just had to put them on Joweii’s Mansion of Rare’s …. Seemed so fitting … They look great there :)

I love the disc lables as well … only I dont see a disc I made …. maybe its in the mist of all of the inventory I have … I will have to check and see… but as far as I can see all the others are there but that one …. but I will look again ….

*listening to Fugly Bollywood, on our lot Rare Canyon Oil in the Sky…. * lol Fugly ….

Well I just wanted to say …. that the updates are wonderful and send many thanks …. And I cant wait to be able to try everything out :)

    7. Malachi Says:

The hard work is appreciated, devs!

    8. FUGLY BEAR Says:

CUSTOM BEAR HEADS ARE WORKING NOW

    9. Raisin Says:

lol I can see that in you picture Fugly… ;)
(He has camouflage print all over his head when I’m looking at this)

Too bad I can’t report a thousand bugs here now but one at least:
      - I’m already getting badges in my inventory for the quests I have started, but not finished yet. Such as grow all gladiolus, grow all begonias

I guess the badges can’t be calculated on positions we once had though?
I have reached number 1 on energy mogul, but now there’s no chance of reaching that again since all the people running boilers for a living are there + I have a life (shock, horror) Okay not much of a life but still. ;)

    10. Garbage Man Says:

Does drilling for oil give bad carbon? Or is it safe to try for those who want to preserve their good carbon?

What do those badges mean that only some personas have (greyed out) “Level 1 Energy with Good Carbon Footprint”, “Level 2..”, “Level 3..” etc? Only have those on Raisin. There is no popup of what they mean when I click them.

    11. FUGLY Says:

I ONLY MENTIONED THE BEAR HEAD THING HERE RAISIN SO THOSE WHO ARE READING THE BLOG DIDNT START MAKING THE BEAR CUSTOM CONTENT AND END UP HAVING AN ISSUE. YOU KNOW AS TO WARN OTHER PLAYERS OF THE ISSUE. I AM GLAD THE ISSUE GOT RESOLVED REAL QUICK, THE DEVELOPERS PUT A LOT OF WORK IN THIS WEEKS PUSH.

    12. Raisin Says:

Drilling for oil doesn’t give bad carbon now, but will next week.

    13. Lalani Says:

I’m loving this update, especially the corn.

I’m still not able to sit on the Terra Classic Leather Sofa sections. Can this bug be fixed also. Thanks!

    14. Raisin Says:

I still can’t get the bear heads to work.
I could upload it fine but when I try to apply it to the head he just loses his head completely. It’s not spinning all the way around though like in Omen. :p

    15. Raisin Says:

Also I’ve asked around, nobody gets the “Find oil” achievement complete. That one is broken. Would be great if it was fixed before finding oil starts to cost us bad carbon.

    16. Malachi Says:

Looks like oil has started to sell - even at 200 TAU per barrel. I know that biofuel can be had for as little as 50-60 TAU per barrel sometimes and often at 85. Why would anyone buy oil at a much higher price and jack up their bad carbon footprint score?

    17. Raisin Says:

      Novelty?

I’m wondering how oil will translate into energy.
Right now oil is exactly the same as biofuel, in the boiler. The boiler even says it is biofuel actually.

It’s just a TAD …. more work to get that oil out of the ground. But it gives much more ofc. * rubs sore carpal tunnel syndrome wrists * na kidding :p

One strange thing is also that burning biofuel in a boiler gives bad carbon. And burning oil gives the same. It’s confusing, I thought biofuel was extremely green. Maybe us “Good carb fanatics” could be given an option to burn biofuel for good carbon. So we might keep up with the bad carbon burners on Energy Mogul…

    18. Tirnua Greg Says:

When fully “in” - oil creates slightly more energy than biofuel. The burning of oil will create more bad carbon; however, the burning of fuel including biofuel creates bad carbon.

In general, the burning of fuels creates green house gases - some more than others. A huge positive for biofuel is that it is possibly carbon neutral because the plants themselves convert green house gases.

    19. Andrea Says:

The way it is now you can use a boiler to your hearts content and not raise your bad carbon footprint. If you use a boiler that someone else has ignited. Even if you are the one fueling the boiler. The one that ignites the boiler gets all the bad carbon score. Is there a way this can be changed? If you are benefiting by using the furnace you should also be punished. Maybe it could be fixed to where if you insert a battery into the charger the charger checks to see how it is being charged.

It only seems logical that if you are an energy mogul you would also have a bad carbon footprint. It makes no sense to me to have someone at the top of both the energy mogul list and the good carbon list. I could provide you with an example if you so wish.

    20. Tirnua Greg Says:

assigning carbon points to the battery owner sounds like a good idea….

    21. Raisin Says:

Those lists are a damn mockery.
      I’m pissed off.
